The 1865 + Megohmmeter/IR tester, with digital display, is used for high accuracy measurements of insulation resistance on a wide variety of components, materials and electronic devices. Resistance values greater than 100 teraohms can be measured with a basic accuracy of 0.5% at DC voltages up to 1000 V.
A programmable limit makes the megohmmeter ideal for pass/fail testing in a production environment and is also adaptable for use in automated system applications with its included RS-232 Interface or optional IEEE-488 interface adapter.
Precision Measurements: The IET Labs 1865 + Megohmmeter provides resistance measurement capability from 1 kΩ to 100 TΩ (test voltage dependent) with a basic accuracy of 0.5%. To meet test requirements for a wide range of devices, the test voltage is fully programmable up to 1000 Vdc. Sensing the proper resistance measurement range is done automatically, thus eliminating setup errors; and in order to eliminate lead or fixture errors, the operator can easily initiate an automatic zeroing routine of test leads.
Easy to use: The 1865+'s menu programming system is significantly improved, simple controls and indicators combine for efficiency of test and productivity. Its multi-function keypad provides the operator with an easy way to program and make measurements.
Pass/Fail Testing: Measured results are automatically compared to an operator programmed limit for pass/fail testing. Pass/Fail indicator lights or a pass/fail output from the megohmmeter I/O interface provide a clear indication of the measured results.
Program and Data Storage: Test setup conditions and measured results of the megohmmeter can be stored in CSV format for easy use with Microsoft Excel. Storage options include:

  • 512 MB of internal instrument memory for storage of setups
  • A computer (via the RS-232 interface)
  • A flash drive (via the USB host port)

Automated Testing: For automated system applications, the 1865+ Megohmmeter includes an RS-232 interface for control and data collection and an I/O interface connection with remote start and pass/fail outputs. An optional IEEE-488 to RS-232 adapter is also available (or can be added later), which enables the 1865 to be remotely controlled by a computer with ieee-488 interface.
Resistance or Current Display Mode: Besides a readout of insulation resistance in ohms, the operator can select a display mode for reading the measured current directly .
Safety Features: The 1865 + Megohmmeter provides safety features such as current limiting, a warning indicator when high voltage is active, and safety interlock, all for protection of the operator.
Component Test Fixture: An accessory fixture is available for use with the 1865+ Megohmmeter which accommodates a variety of component types, including radial, axial and chip components. Its shielded case reduces electrical noise and interference and includes a cover interlock switch and remote start for maximum operator safety.

GENRAD / QUADTECH 1864-9700 Megohmmeter

The GenRad 1864 Megohmmeter is the choice for more demanding applications. The test voltage can be set to any value from 10 Vdc to 109 Vdc in 1-volt steps and to 1090 Vdc in 10 volt steps. Thus the GenRad 1864 can be set to any common, or uncommon test voltage for ceramic, mica or paper capacitors, or other devices. The reverse resistance of rectifiers can be readily measured; the low test voltages are especially useful in measuring solid state diodes. An additional range on the 1864 Megohmmeter permits measurements up to 200 TΩ (2 x 1014 Ω)
Stability of calibration in the GenRad 1864 Megohmmeter is maintained by use of a four-transistor unity gain amplifier. In addition, no warm-up drift is encountered, and high zero stability is maintained during operation.  Human engineering has not been overlooked in the GenRad 1864 Megohmmeter as evidenced by the warning light that is activated by the application of the test voltage. The 1864 employees a Measure/Charge/Discharge switch and provision for performance grounded and ungrounded measurements.
The GenRad 1864 Megohmmeter is easy to use with direct-reading meter indication and lighted range switch that shows the multiplier for each range and voltage. The maximum current possible at the terminals is limited to a 5mA and a panel light near the terminals warns when voltage is present.
Stable power supplies and feedback voltmeter circuit minimize drift and time wasting adjustments. Guard and ground terminals permit measurement of grounded or ungrounded two- or three-terminal resistors. GENRAD 1863 Megohmmeter
The GenRad/IET 1863 Megohmmeter is the choice for production and inspection tests on devices with resistances up to 20 Tohms. The GenRad/IET 1863 will measure resistance at any of five test voltages of: 50 V, 100 V, 200 V, 250 V, and 500 Vdc. Compared to the GenRad/IET 1864, which has adjustable test voltages from 10 V to 1090 V, this unit has fewer controls, and is the more economical of the two models.
Stability of calibration in the GenRad 1863 Megohmmeter is maintained by use of a four-transistor unity gain amplifier. Stable power supplies and feedback voltmeter circuit minimize drift and time wasting adjustments.
Safety has not been overlooked in the GenRad 1863 Megohmmeter as evidenced by the warning light that is activated by the application of the test voltage. The maximum current possible at the terminals is limited to a 5mA. The Megohmmeter employs a Measure/Charge/Discharge switch for quick charging and discharging of capacitive devices such as long lengths of cable and capacitors.

Guard and ground terminals permit measurement of grounded or guarded devices. The guard is particularly helpful in measuring three terminal resistors. The ground terminal is used on applications such as insulation resistance of cables in a water bath, where the water needs to be grounded for safety, or other devices where one of the measurement terminals is connected to earth ground.
